ANYONE REMEMBER THE DAMBUILDERS? At the recent Boston show, Tom Drummond shared a little bit of information about the forthcoming BTE concert DVD. Does the name Dambuilders ring a bell with anyone? That's right, back in the mid-90s BTE toured extensively with this Boston-based band. The band was comprised of bass player/singer Dave Derby, Eric Masunaga on guitar, Joan Wasser on violin and vocals, and Kevin March on drums. Ezralites may also recall that Joan Wasser played violin on BTE's Friction Baby and on at least one occasion (a concert broadcast on radio) played live on "The Killer Inside." Dambuilders member Eric Masunaga now runs a company called Modulus DVD. According to the company's website, the company has recently worked on projects for the Richard Thompson Band, Throwing Muses, Superchunk, Low, and Secretly Canadian. Sounds like good company to me... THE BOOTLOG If you're a fan of How Does Your Garden Grow, you just might want to track down a recording of BTE at Howlin' Wolf venue from May 1, 1998. Why this particular Garden era recording? Well, what's so cool about it is that the songs are very raw and haven't yet been honed to perfection. And Malcolm Burn's guitar on "Live Again" is just incredible. Also, the show included a great selection of tunes from the first 3 BTE CDs plus "Circle of Friends." If you're trading, keep an eye out for this show. The Setlist* * I'm not sure, but they may have been one or two tunes played at this show that do not appear on the recording. |
EZRALITES GET TOGETHER FOR Northeastern Ezralites recently got to together for a Graham Colton Band show at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, MA. All told, about a dozen BTE fans showed up to represent BTE and support Graham and his band. the band is currently getting radio airplay with their new single "Don't Give Up On Me" from their forthcoming CD "Drive." Despite heavy rain, the show got a great turnout for a Tuesday night, largely filling the venue. Guster fans were in attendance in addition to Ezralites. Colton and Co. previously opened for Guster at Northampton's Calvin Theatre and it was obvious that they got some new fans during that visit. The band turned in an excellent performance and were obviously enjoying themselves notwithstanding having had their van vandalized and items stolen the night before in Rochester, NY. The band played all three songs co-written with BTE's Kevin Griffin (i.e., "Cut,""Morning Light" and "Cigarette."). As usual "Cigarette" was the highlight of the show. Graham appropriately introduced the song as: "a ROCK song on our new album." The band are touring extensively this summer, so if you can't make any BTE shows in the near future, why not contact some fellow Ezralites and meet up at a GCB show. Definitely worth checking out! Also check out the GCB message board. |
