BTE GIVES OFF THE "SCENT OF ROCK" IN WESTERN PA
Allegheny, PA

Upon arrival to Hartwood Amphitheater in Allegheny County Pennsylvania it appeared that the threat of thunderstorms was going to scare many fans away. However, 45 minutes later when the band took the stage for "An Evening With Better Than Ezra" the multi-acre park was filled with people.

The stage was set at the bottom of a grassy hill and surrounded all sides with trees and dense woods. This setting prompted the ever creative Kevin Griffin to joke about watching out for black bears who are "attracted by the scent of rock, and that's a scent we give off." In addition, he referred to the event as a picnic or a hootenanny on more than one occasion.

The band took the stage right on time. Kicking it off with "Recognize" and played all the usual favorites with the usual additions of covers until wrapping it up with "Desperately Wanting. The show was cut short because of an incoming thunderstorm that was producing an amazing lightning show in the background. According to the set list they were forced to leave out 3 songs; "Sincerely, Me," "In the Blood," and "Daylight."

Unfortunately, as with most free shows there tends to be an abundance of people who may or may not know the band, but show up because it’s free. Although it’s great for the band to increase their fan base by winning over new fans, in this case a group of teenagers turned a BTE show into a stage diving, mosh pit event ruining it for many people in the front.

Nevertheless, the band seemed to be feeding off the energy from this unruly group however, commenting, "They couldn’t wait to come back here SOON!" All in all, despite the threat of rain and the constant distraction of kids jumping on stage it was a great, high-energy show, as usual.
