BTE ROCK OUT AT THE
 UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
Friday, September 19th, 2003
by Jeffro

Better Than Ezra and Ingram Hill played on Friday, September 19 in the Greek Theater at the University of Arkansas. Ingram Hill opened to the capacity crowd with about 8 songs and really sounded great! At about 9:30, BTE came out and opened their set with "Recognize," which I didn’t expect.

The crowd was going crazy with flashes coming from every direction regardless of the "no camera" rules. "Misunderstood" was the second song they played followed by "Extra-Ordinary." I was extremely surprised to see 2,000+ people packed in the Greek Theater on an away game weekend. The guys were in a great mood and put on the show of a lifetime!

Despite the usual mishaps – the spotlights not working or the occasional security guard taking cameras away – the show was outstanding. The guys didn’t play "Simple Song," "Closer," "Get You In," or "Daylight," which surprised me having seen all of those on their recent set lists. There were times when Kevin went off on some crazy Led Zeppelin tangents which turned into full blown covers! They also did a full cover of Beck’s "Debra."

As the show was coming to a close, they started playing "This Time of Year", and I was very surprised to hear them invite a guest guitarist up on stage, because they also haven’t done that the last few times I have seen them. They closed the show with "Desperately Wanting" as usual, and left the stage with the expectations of coming back on for an encore.

The crowd, being inexperienced concert goers, all started filing out. The band failed to return to the stage leaving a disappointed bunch of Ezralites wanting more! All in all, the show was outstanding. It was one of the best and most unique times I have seen the band and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue. To top the evening off, the band mentioned that their DVD will be coming out in November and the new album in February, confirming our hopes that the dates won’t keep changing. Keep it up guys, you rock!.

Thanks for the cool review, Jeffro.  We hope you make it to another BTE show really soon.
