FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Please allow me to welcome you to the first edition of the STREET SERENADE an unofficial newsletter for fans of the rock group BETTER THAN EZRA. The newsletter will be published quarterly or possibly even more frequently. No, I have no idea how this is going to work. In large part, the success of this venture will be determined by the fans themselves. Got a concert review you’d like to share? Did you take that perfect photo you wish your fellow fans could get to see? Do you have a story to tell? What cool cover did the band play in Baton Rouge? This is the place to share all this information. Any and all submissions are welcome. If you have any ideas or comments or wish to help out, just let us know at: ED@streetserenade.com. One particular feature of the newsletter will be a fan photo competition. Photos can be of anything – the band, the tour bus, fans, venues, you name it. We even have a winner for this first edition. Congratulations go out to JulieF of California who captured Tom Drummond in the quintessential rock star pose. And yes contest winners do get a small prize from the SERENADE's vault. A final word is necessary about Sir Isaac Newton and OASIS. Well, sort of. Both talked about "standing on the shoulders of giants..." and in this case, the idea for this newsletter obviously builds upon the prior work of Therese McKeon. Many of you may recall the "Ezralite Alerts" she sent out for so many years. Thanks Therese! Cheers, EnglishDave |
FEATURE STORY: "It’s not an Ezralite Convention, it's more like an Ezralite Gathering..." By EnglishDave Ezralites from all around the country converged on the New Orleans House of Blues for BTE’s Christmas shows held on December 13 and 14th. This annual spectacular did not disappoint as fans were treated to rare live songs, awesome guest musicians, a spirited water fight, and lots and lots of faux snow... Kevin Griffin Gets Extra Ordinary at
Xmas Opening act GRAHAM COLTON put on a solid performance both nights.* The Dallas-based band got the house moving with tunes such as "Jessica," "Amelia’s Corner" and a new rocking song entitled "Cigarette" co-written with BTE’s own Kevin Griffin. Guitar man Brian "Turtle" Turton did an outstanding job as
the traditional Drunken Santa (a.k.a. Turtle
Claus) Saturday night when he laconically wandered on stage
toting a cigarette, beer, and liquor bottle. As he precariously leaned
into the microphone he announced simply: "It’s time for @#*^%$!
BETTER THAN EZRA!" This intro was a welcome relief from some of the
other more wordy Santas fans have endured in past years.
