DVD MANIA (CONT'D)

I heard a lot of people talk about the opening band, Bonerama, and how great they were. I was hoping they weren’t as scary as the dudes from the night before who had their own kind of talent (for sure). They came on stage, and did things with six trombones and a tuba that I had never heard before such as a very cool rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s "Kiss the Sky," as well as a kick-ass-rockin’, blow-your-socks-off version of the Edgar Winter Group’s "Frankenstein." It was amazing, and I have to thank BTE for having them open.

When Bonerama left the stage, the guys’ equipment was set up. You know my heart races when I see them taping down Tom’s rug…and I got a peek at the set list. (Editor’s note: Here’s the setlists for both nights’ shows, courtesy of Pauly G).

I think the second show was more lively than the first. The band and the crowd must have been accustomed to the big camera swooping over our heads, and the fancam guy shoving the video cam in our faces. This night was more relaxed, full of humor and Ezra love. Kevin said that it was a "two-fer" weekend, a super-size if you will. He said you could tell it was a giddy Saturday night crowd. He noted Friday’s crowd probably worked all day and was tired, but that Saturday’s crowd probably slept all day, got up for some pizza at around 4pm, went back to sleep, and got up at 8pm ready to go! Tom laughed and said that sounded familiar..

BTE Fans, You Have Been Duly Warned!!

As Ashley noted in her post on the board, Kevin took a sip of his drink and thanked God for Tom’s "sweet tea" concoction. Tom happily took credit for the potion – as KG "needed to have his buzz on." Next thing, Kevin turned around and shook his booty like he was in a rap video. I hope that makes the DVD! He also wiped his mouth at one point and said "its getting hot in here," but they didn’t bust into some Nelly. Tommy D thanked us all for selling out the HOB in New Orleans – for the twelfth time – go Ezralites!

Kevin commended fans for picking "Beautiful Mistake" as the evening’s song request. He mentioned how great it was that fans like their deeper songs, not just the popular ones. Kevin later broke into "Waxing and Waning" to which Tom smiled and mouthed "that’s not on the set list!" It was a treat to hear "Get You In" and then a Led Zeppelin medley. Kevin proceeded to humorously school the crowd on the rock n’ roll art of "Kicking it Up" and "Breaking It Down."

He gave special thanks to the "Fires of Love Horn Duo"(Mark from Bonerama, and Eric Lucero). The pair were clad in these cool red velvet robes with shiny orange and yellow flames sewn across the front, which tied in the back at the neck (so the back was all open). Kevin claimed Tom made the costumes his own little hands until his fingers bled. Unfortunately they had clothes on underneath, but KG ordered that they come out with nothing on underneath for the encore (I believe the exact phrase was "butt ass nekkid") and that they inadvertently drop their sheet music on the floor, turn around, bend over and pick it up – slowly!

The Usual Suspects - Thanks Guys!

Kevin touted James Arthur Payne, Jr as being the "superglue" (not just regular glue) that holds the band together, as the band broke into "Live Again." He also introduced the crew members, thanking them one by one and telling them he loved them and how lucky they were to have worked together for such a long time. Kevin also thanked his parents, while a spotlight pointed them out to the crowd. It was a nice moment and we all cheered. Some of us went so far as to yell to them later- "thanks for giving birth to Kevin!" Sidebar – Mr. And Mrs. Griffin are a very are a handsome couple.

And yes, we did get to see the "Sincerely, Me" drum huddle. Tom’s got the drumsticks out and the crowd yelled for him to throw them, causing him to ask "why are drumsticks the most coveted thing in rock?" Travis grinned at this, and Kevin interjected "Because there are so many things you can do with them!" We all laughed hysterically. As I was taking notes, all of a sudden a thrown drumstick whacked me on the arm and whizzed by me! It landed right next to me, and lucky Corey got a hold of it before I knew what hit me (literally and figuratively). But this merely proves his point - sometimes you are Hootie, and sometimes you are The Blowfish. I am not quite sure which I was, but again I digress...

The "Fires of Love Horn Duo" were more than glad to oblige Kevin’s demands as they came on stage for the encore. They wore nothing but their birthday suits underneath those flashy robes, as we could see when they turned around! The crowd went nuts over that nice view! We also went really wild for the awesome rendition of "Use Me." It was a perfect way to end the show. I can’t wait to see that one on the DVD. Kevin did his sexy dance, sat on the bass drum in a sultry pose, walked by the front of the crowd, and did a mini private dance with April behind me. "Use Me" was a perfect, magical ending to the night. We were so pumped up and feeling the Ezra love! Some of us waited a couple hours after the show for the guys to come out, but I suppose they wanted some well-deserved party/chill time with their families and friends after such an adrenalin filled weekend.

I can sum up this night by saying I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS DVD TO COME OUT!

Thanks so much for a great review Elaine.  I think we all agree with your last comment...
