ENDURING A LITTLE BIT OF FESTI-HELL FOR BTE IN B’HAM (CONT'D) I don’t think I have ever been so anxious to have a BTE show start, not in my whole Ezralite life. I just wanted some pictures and to get the h*ll out of that crowd. The scene was obnoxious, hot, nasty, and just down right no fun at all. Finally the guys took the stage and I snapped some shots. Then the crowd surfing started. By the time I had been knocked upside the head, smashed by people attempting to catch crowd surfers, and had my toes stomped on even more, I was definitely ready to haul butt out of that crowd. Thankfully I had Charlie on one side – and Ray on the other – and they were able to save me from being totally crushed. I snapped a few more shots as my hubby jotted down the set list in my palm. We were going to stay up at the front for one more song, but when I had some random female crowd surfer’s boobs got shoved in my face enough was enough! We slowly had to fight our way out of the crowd; it was packed like a tin of sardines. We finally made it to the side. Once at the side I was finally able to catch my breath and compose myself. Let me tell you it was MUCH better watching from the sidelines, where you could breath and dance. Despite all the insanity of the crowd, the BTE boys put on a truly WONDERFUL show. They were in wonderful sprits and thoroughly entertained the crowd. I will list some of my favorite highlights from the show for you: Getting to hear "Wallflower Girl." This was a real treat because it is not often played at live shows. My "favorite banter" award for the night would go to Kevin. He mistakenly dropped a B*llshit bomb, and then realized this was a "family show." He immediately apologized to the crowd: "I am sorry I am cursing at a family event." Then there was a dramatic pause and he said "Dammit!" all the while shaking his head as if he was really mad at himself. Another highlight was Kevin and Tom’s interactive banter – "Interpreting Rock Speak." Tom would say something then Kevin would say it in what he called rock speak. Rock speak was long and drawn out with some accompanying guitar playing. It was rather funny. There were also comments about the crowd and the heat. "Tom, can you feel the heat coming off this crowd?!" Kevin asked, to which Tom replied "What do you mean rhetorically?" |
Probably the most memorable moment of the night was KG busting his butt on stage. He fell down hard. He looked a bit shocked for a few moments. Then, in true showman style, KG busted into a solo and he and Tom whipped up some funny banter that cracked up the crowd. Over all it was a good show, but I think the venue could have provided a bit more stability for the event and should have at least have had better crowd control plans. Thanks to the BTE guys for providing an interesting and entertaining show nonetheless! Em, you rock! |
