FAN PROFILE: JAMIE C. Jamie C. has volunteered to be the subject of the second SERENADE's Fan Profile. Each profile includes some basic information about the fan and follow-up questions about their BTE and related experiences. Name: Jamie C.
How and when did you become a BTE fan? Where was your most memorable live show, and why was it so good
(uh-huh)? What's the best live BTE song? And your favorite cover? Are you a bootleg collector? What's your favorite? Which BTE opening band would you recommend and why? What other bands do you really like? Anything else you'd like to share with your fellow Ezralites? Editor’s Note: If you would like to suggest a fan to profile for future editions (a profile of yourself included), please email your suggestion to ED@streetserenade.com. |
GLOBAL BTE: Editor's Note: There's no telling where you'll find BTE fans around the globe. This edition of the SERENADE features Hana, a German Ezralite. Here she tells us a little bit about her world and how she became a fan of the band.
Hi, my name is Hana. I live in Hamburg, which is situated in the north of Germany. It is the second biggest and, of course, the most beautiful city of the country! I love the huge port on the Elbe river which leads into the North Sea, and the cool and reserved people of the North. I am 19 years old and I study Japanese Studies at the University of Hamburg. One hope one day to be a journalist. I'm currently contemplating studying journalism in the United States. I've been traveling to the U.S. for about 12 years. I spent a year in Melbourne, Florida as an exchange student. It's funny that I never heard of BTE during my time there. My first experience with this wonderful band was here, in Hamburg, in 1996. Much like Renata from Brazil, I was sitting on the sofa watching TV. It was a boring Saturday night. I was home alone and there was nothing interesting on so I was zapping through the channels. At that time, MTV had a show called "Imports" where they showed videos that hadn't been released in Europe yet. I happened to catch the last minute of the "Desperately Wanting" video. I totally fell in love with the song from the first chord. I was stunned by Kevin's beautiful, clear voice, and the simple yet goose-bumps-producing melody. So, I ran into the kitchen and wrote down the name of the band and the album. A few days later I got lucky and found "Friction Baby" in a really small CD store. It kept rotating in my CD player for months... In the summer of 2000, I was again on vacation in the U.S. when I learned that BTE had a new album out. I bought "Closer" and fell in love with the band again and bought all the other albums the next day (I had no idea BTE had been diligently recording albums all these years!). It didn't take long for me to find great Ezralite-friends on the Message Board. People have been really nice to me, providing me with live shows and rare recordings. And since I became an "Ezra Deluxe" I know I'm proud to call myself a real Ezralite! Last summer I went to Atlanta's "On The Bricks" concert to see BTE live for the first time. I love concerts and I go to a lot, but that experience was almost unreal. I had never seen a band that played with so much power and energy! I met so many cool Ezralites there. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to manage standing in 2nd row for 6 hours in 100 °F heat and a tropical storm. After the show, I even got to meet Travis, Tom and Jim to tell them that I was BTE's biggest German fan (at least I think I might be). I guess I've been talking about that day ever since. Sometimes I must get on my friends' nerves, but I don't care. It's just hard to express how much the band’s music means to me. I listen to a lot of Alternative Rock music. Matchbox Twenty is my second favorite band and I also enjoy listening to The Wallflowers, Graham Colton, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Our Lady Peace, The Goo Goo Dolls or slower Rock like Peter Stuart, David Gray, David Poe etc, but my favorite band is and will always be Better Than Ezra! Thanks for an outstanding contribution Hana.
