AT THE MOVIES WITH KEVIN GRIFFIN

If you've been to a couple of Better Than Ezra shows, there's a pretty good chance you heard the guys talking about movies they've seen (both good and bad).  So, the SERENADE decided to ask Kevin Griffin a few questions about his interest in the movies:

You frequently comment about movies on stage. Do you consider yourself a movie buff? Have motion pictures played a big part of your life?
I don't consider myself a movie buff because I have friends who are movie buffs and they frighten me. There was a time though when a few films made a big impact on me. "Betty Blue" which is a French film knocked me out, and the soundtrack is awesome.

I loved "Election." There are moments in that film, and in "Rushmore" that remind me of "Harold and Maude." I guess I'm a sucker for films that integrate music in just the right way.

We know you lived in LA for a time, got any connections in the movie industry?
I really don't have any contacts in the film biz. Other than having them call you up to ask for song rights.

How do you feel about BTE tunes appearing on soundtracks?
We love having our songs in films as long as the film isn't a complete load of crap. Okay, yes, we have allowed songs to be in crappy films, but, uh, hmmm...could you rephrase you're question?

And are we ever going to get to hear "Leave a Light On?"
We are leaving a light on for "Leave a Light On." If anyone sees her, tell her we miss her.

Where do you watch most movies, at home? On the road?
I watch most movies, first runs that is, on the road. You've got so much time to burn. Unfortunately, you're often reduced to seeing a movie based solely on whether or not it fits between sound check and the show. "Bringing Down Da House" and "First Wives Club" fall into this category.

Does the tour bus get cable/satellite?
The bus has two roaming satellites so we got da' hook-up. We're big fans of the "Iron Chef" and "Spongebob."

When the band gets out to the local cineplex, are we talking a snackfest? Who's getting the Milk Duds and who's all about the Junior Mints?
We're all pretty much soda and popcorn guys, but we're are open to experimenting. Travis I'd say is the most curious. He mixed licorice and goobers to catastrophic effect.

I know it's probably a point of contention, but who's most likely to dig a "chick flick?"
I'm probably guilty about liking chick flicks. I've seen "Hope Floats" too many times, as well as "The Stepmom." I didn't plan for this, it, just...happened.

What's your favorite comedy of all time? Your favorite drama? Action movie? Who would you pick as the greatest living movie actor and actress?
Favorite comedy, I'm embarrassed to admit, cause it's such a cliche is "Spinal Tap," and only because I can't remember laughing so hard when I first saw it. Others in no order. "Waiting for Guffman," "Splash," "Tommy Boy," "The Jerk," "Young Frankenstein," "Tootsie," "Harold and Maude." Oh, I loved "Old School."

Drama? "Midnight Cowboy," "Kramer v. Kramer," hmmm...

Action? God, I loved "The Matrix."

Actor's? Brendan Frasier, Tori Spelling, Meg Ryan...uh, wait...sorry, you meant my favorite actors?

On your recent Northeast dates you mentioned the movie "Pootie-Tang," right?
I'm a big Chris Rock fan, hence the "Pootie Tang" references.

Thanks so much, Kev!
