BTE BACK ON THE At approximately 9:05pm the show opened with the Owen Beverly Band. They were really impressive, in my opinion, and had a very different sound. I picked up one of their CD’s on my way out after the concert and absolutely I love it. They all looked so young though, I couldn’t get over it!
As the BTE crew came out to setup for the band’s set, the crowd suddenly swelled forward. My friend and I took pictures of each other by the setlist and various other things (I think we highly amused the really cool people behind us). One of them commented on my shirt and asked where I had gotten it, I told them it was homemade. I never knew so many people didn’t know you couldn’t make your own t-shirts. Thankfully these people were nice enough to let fellow ezralite Courtney come forward and take a picture with us. And they chatted with Court and us throughout the night. It makes all the difference in the world having friendly people around you at a concert, doesn’t it? Another highlight of the pre-show interlude was when Outkast’s "Hey Ya" came through the speakers, the whole crowd started dancing and singing, it was crazy! Finally the rooster crowed and BTE took the stage. The guys looked very happy and excited to play. The show opened up with "Recognize." Ray and I were very please we won the traditional guessing game with in our local circuit of Ezralites. It is a tradition to guess what the first song will be, if you are right you get the satisfaction of knowing you won! The BTE guys went on to play a wonderful show, you can check out the picture of the set list for the full show line up:
Please note that "R3wind" was played instead of "Sincerely, Me." Someone shouted out R3wind and KG happily obliged the fan saying: "R3Wind? Alright, this is your request!" "Daylight" was played for the encore but, the audience got to vote between "Sincerely Me" and " In the Blood" "In the Blood" got the loudest cheers and won the poll.
There were plenty of other highlights to the show: Shoutouts were given to the local cities Starkville (of course), West Point, Tupelo, and "Co-lumbus?" (That is exactly how KG said it). It was especially pleasing to hear Kevin say Tupelo and glance down at Jodi and I and the rest of the crew. Travis messed up during one of the songs and got so tickled he couldn't stop laughing. Promptly Tom started laughing and KG altered some lyrics to "Travis f*cked up" to make the situation even more amusing. |
I am now officially a "sexy motherf*cker" inductee. KG said it to me and
then followed it with a "yeah you!" Even though I have seen him do it many
times, it still cracks me up. It was especially nice because my camera was
causing me major aggravation, and that crazy KG cheered me right up!
At one point, Kevin went into story telling mode and told the crowd about the schoolyard bullies he encountered as a child/they grew up with. He talked about the one guy that would always stop you on the way to Sonic, and then accuse you of something and try to start a fight. KG put on his good ‘ole boy impression and cracked the crowd up – he puffed up his chest began talking in redneck, asking "What, you gonna bow up on me?!" Throwing a cup down on the ground and just generally acting crazy. He then went on to say his big brother was taller and a bit heavier than him so when people found that out, they left "little Griffin" alone. A proper shout out to his Big B was given and he cautioned the crowd to: "Always give love to your Big brother cause they’ll save your ass!" He also commented on how he loved telling stories like that in the South because we all knew what he meant and probably had someone like that at our school too. Bowed Up (or bowe up) -- Refers to the way a snake bows up his head before he strikes. It means that some one is very angry and ready to possibly fight. Also know as a hot head, short-tempered, or very defensive. Used in a sentence: "She bowed up on him when he asked if she had gained a couple of pounds."
KG noted that the DVD would be out in January (although we have no official date yet, Tom also mentioned that "Get You In" would be on it and that it would have 20 or so songs. Kevin also talked about fan cameraman Weiner and how they had to pick him just because of his last name. He also said they went out to some strip clubs and bars and that the Fan cam had this real "trippy" feature of weird angles and stuff so "that footage should be real fun!" He also went on to gripe about how the next night the Fan Cam winner had all the strippers sitting in his lap and "What the h*ll, we are the band?!" Tom said, "See, that's what happens when you come to our shows!" KG replied: "Really?" Travis and Jim were just cracking up the whole time. The recent Voodoo Fest show was also mentioned. Kevin talked about how they had to open for Marilyn Manson and share a tent with him how there was some strange s*it. He talked about how someone messed up and consequently they didn't have any liquor or anything, so Marilyn Manson’s people went out and got the guys some alcohol. Click HERE to hear this banter. As usual it was an awesome show, and I am eagerly awaiting my next chance to see BTE live. Thanks for stopping in from the Magnolia State Ezralites. We always love to see you! Another super review from Emily. Thanks Em! |
