FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The DVD is upon us. I cannot wait to see this sucker on my TV screen and drive around playing the live CD at high volume. Come on September 28th! And then we'll shortly thereafter be treated to a "best of" compilation for the holidays. Not to mention a new album for the New Year. I know I'm buying beer and pizza for my friend with the home theater system. Of course, he doesn't know he's hosting a DVD party, but he will soon enough. And guess what all my relatives (and yours) are getting for Christmas? It's been a long wait. Long and frustrating for the everybody. You've probably seen there's been some understandable kvetching on the message board about the delays in the new material. However, I think it's important to remember that it's been frustrating for everyone involved -- i.e., the band and the fans. I remember talking with Tom Drummond after Closer was released. Someone asked him about the state of the music industry. He paused, and shook his head wearily said something like: "It's messed up and it's definitely not getting any easier." Mr. Drummond was right then. He's even more more right now. Unless you live in a hole in the ground, you'll have observed the music industry is a disaster. Established artists are getting dropped by labels left, right and center. All sorts of tours, including big name tours, are faring very poorly. What's my point? Yes, I do actually have one. I think everyone deserves a serious pat on the back for making it to this point. Major props to BTE for their eternal optimism and hard work in making these good things happen. AND major props to the fans who've stuck with the band through thick and thin. In this era of now you see them, now you don't bands, BTE are rare breed indeed. And so are their fans. Cheers, EnglishDave |
DVD / LIVE CD AVAILABLE In the last week Ezralites everywhere were burning up the wires talking about the announcement heralding the arrival of BTE's new DVD and Live CD. Both products will are available to fans either through the BTE website (with special combination deals!), and any number of the usual distribution channels (e.g., websites and stores) beginning September 28th. Many internet websites were already advertising both products at press time.
So what's on the DVD? Here's what we know. The DVD boasts an truly impressive tracklist. You'll note that the DVD has the more visual and horn-centric tunes on it -- i.e., Bill Withers' "Use Me," "Allison Foley" and "Waxing or Waning." For anyone who has never been to a New Orleans BTE, this is going to make you realize what you have been missing. Nothing beats BTE playing with the horn section of Mark Mullins (Trombone) and Eric Lucero (Trumpet). And then there's the other details we don't yet know about. For instance, will there be "fancam" footage as promised? And the "documentary" footage by the film student? And let's not forget, the "Night Out with BTE" footage complete with "pixilated naughty parts." Over the past year we have heard that all these items are on the DVD. The final cut remains to be seen, but either way, the DVD is going to be an Ezralite's dream! (More on page 2). |
