BTE SCORES BIG AT
ARROWHEAD STADIUM

Okay, so you know that feeling that you get when you get to a BTE concert and the opening act comes on stage?!? It's overwhelming excitement, because you know that the concert that you have been counting down for weeks is finally here – or will be in another half hour to forty-five minutes. BTE’s opening bands are usually great, but you are so excited for the main event that the anticipation kills you. That's the feeling I and many of my friends had on May 3rd when BTE hit Kansas City for a post KC Wizards pro-soccer game show. After sitting through an overtime tied game, you can imagine the nervous energy running through me!

When the game finally ended, the crowds quickly moved into the aisles awaiting the opening of the gates onto the field. Once the goals and benches were disassembled, it was like the running of the bulls in Pamplona, as literally hundreds of people spilled onto the field running full-tilt towards the stage. After a few minutes we saw the guys descend from their suite. Suddenly the lights went out, and we heard the familiar rooster crowing signaling the starts of an exciting and entertaining night.

The band kicked-off with "Misunderstood," a perfect upbeat musical introduction for the many BTE virgins in the crowd, including four of my friends. The set list included favorites such as "Good," "Rolling," "KONO," "At the Stars" and more. The atmosphere was awesome. The crowd was a perfect blend of BTE veterans and rookies. Two young kids next to me tried desperately to sing and dance along to songs they hadn’t heard before (they caught on the "Good" chorus pretty quickly).

Later on, fans got to hear "Special" which I absolutely adore. It’s not only a beautiful song, but it’s great to see Tom and Travis mouthing the lyrics while Kevin and Jim sing the song. A few songs later, the guys offered us "Simple Song" which Kevin introduced as the song they will one day play in London’s Wembley Stadium. As he was talking, someone tweaked the sound controls so that his voice echoed off the walls of Arrowhead Stadium in a very rock and roll fashion. At the same time, the guys smiling faces were all over the Jumbotron enhancing the "Wembley Stadium vibe." Kevin teased Tom by saying he looked particularly good up on the screen. As "Simple Song" began, those of us who knew the words and sang along and received numerous smiles and nods from Tom.

The night ended with "In the Blood." As the guys made their way off stage, the screams gushed forth from the crowd. Newly converted BTE fans asked seasoned ezralites the names of songs they had heard that evening and the CDs to buy. It was a magical night full of new fans, an awesome atmosphere and – last but not least – fantastic music. Once again, BTE delivered!!!
