Santa Fe:

Further west into New Mexico is the town of Santa Fe. Santa Fe was founded a capital city in 1607 by Spanish explorers and it was ceded to the United States in 1846. The territory of New Mexico was first claimed by the conquistador Don Francisco Vasques de Coronoado, whose expeditions also discovered the Grand Canyon. With a such a long history before it became a part of the United States, Santa Fe is home to the oldest public building in America, that being the Palace of the Governors, as well as the nation's oldest community celebration, the Santa Fe Fiesta. New Mexico became a state in 1912, and many people were drawn to the warm climate of Santa Fe as a cure for tuberculosis. Featured attractions in Santa Fe include the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, the aforementioned Palace of the Governors and the Museum of International Folk Art.
