Tucumcari:
With its location on famous Route 66 and its location near the Texas/New Mexico border, Tucumcari prides itself on being the "gateway to New Mexico." Tucumcari has a population of 6,694, and includes such tourist attractions as the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum, Conchas Lake State Park and Ute Lake State Park. Several railroad companies were building a railroad line through New Mexico and the city itself was founded on November 22, 1901. The city was named after nearby Tucumcari mountain.
