Has a longtime BTE myth finally been put to rest? Just maybe. The apparent truth about the origins of the classic song "Rosealia" may have been revealed at the "True Experience" event on October 14, 2004. You may recall that Kevin Griffin frequently offers various stories about the inspiration for the song. On this night, however, he offered up a piece of information that could be independently verified. As he was playing "Rosealia," Kevin said that after his days at Louisiana State University (LSU), he spent some time in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He claims he worked as a waiter at a restaurant called The Pink Adobe owned by a woman named Rosalea Murphy. His performance as waiter was apparently less than stellar and he wrote the song imagining Ms. Murphy to be a witch. Hear his comments here. According to the restaurant's website, the restaurant was indeed founded by one Rosalea Murphy in 1944. Given all the contrary stories told about the origins of the song, this is probably as close to the truth as Ezralites are ever going to get. Editor's note: The "True Experience" event was an all acoustic performance featuring Kevin Griffin of BTE and Fred LeBlanc of Cowboy Mouth. It took place on the Cajun Queen Riverboat in New Orleans. Kevin and Fred took turns talking and playing their respective songs, even each others songs, and provided background as to their origins. they also played a very interesting selection of covers in amongst the comedic banter (see setlist below): First Set King of New Orleans Second Set Somewhere Over the Rainbow |
