FAN PROFILE: Jennay.
The subject of this month’s fan profile is an Alabama Ezralite,
Jennay. You may have spotted her at the Saturday Christmas show at
the House of Blues in New Orleans.
She and her friend Amanda were
right up front, and looked like they were enjoying every minute of the
show. So they obviously already fulfilled item #4 (see below).
Each fan profile has some basic information
about the person and follow-up questions about their BTE fandom. So,
without further ado, here's the lowdown on Jennay.
Jennay with Tom and Kevin in Tuscaloosa, 2003
(Photo:
Jennay). Name: Jennay
Location: Troy, AL (currently in college).
Age: 21.
Occupation: College kid, Movie Gallery worker, and avid
concertgoer.
Favorite CDs: How Does Your Garden Grow?
(BTE), Where You Want to Be (Taking Back Sunday), Rip It
Off (Stroke 9), and Songs About Jane (Maroon 5).
Favorite Songs: Live Again (BTE), Misunderstood (BTE),
You and I (Pat McGee Band), and Washin' and Wonderin'
(Stroke 9), Cut (Graham Colton Band).
BTE Shows: About 8! I would definitely have made it to
more, but classes got in the way...you know how that goes!
How and when did you become a BTE fan?
My freshman year of high school (1999). When I was 15 I went to a
music festival in Dothan, AL called Poplar Head Jam. BTE had just
released "At the Stars" as a single off of HDYGG and were putting
on a show. I went just to see what they were like, and I was in
LURVE! It was kinda rainy that night, but the atmosphere was just
so amazing. Watching BTE on stage performing their butts off, made me
appreciate them and their music so much. I bought the HDYGG album
that night and listened to it the
whole way through for weeks!
Where was your most memorable live show, and why was it so good
(uh-huh)?
Definitely my very first show in Dothan was memorable. It made
such an impact on
me, obviously that I became the biggest fan ever after that ;) But
after that one, I'll say the most recent show I saw in Tuscaloosa at
Jupiter's. The energy was amazing. I got my position right by the
stage and Kevin sang "Debra" to me.... I am Jenny after all--I
deserved it right!?
What's the best live BTE song? And your favorite cover?
Can I pick them all? No? Well, ok... Then I'll have to pick "King of
New Orleans" and "Live Again". Yeah, I know that's two, but
"Live Again" is a given. The music and KG's voice at the very beginning
gives me chills every time I hear it. I absolutely love it when he
belts, "MOOONLIGHTT illuminates your stare...". "King of New Orleans"
makes me
smile and laugh every time as well because I KNOW Kevin's going to do
his "BREAK IT ON DOWN" little dance. So talented that man...
As for covers, I'm partial to "Debra", since it is about a girl names
Jenny and I always hope KG sings to me, but "Use Me" is a
favorite. Great job at covering that song. They added their own special
twist to it.
Are you a bootleg collector? What's your favorite?
I do have "Special." Other than that, not really.... I'd love to
have "Simple Song."
Which BTE opening band would you recommend and why?
My favorite opening band is DEFINITELY
Graham Colton Band.
They're
amazing performers. I liked Pat
McGee Band also. Those guys rock!!!
What other bands do you like?
Taking Back Sunday, Maroon 5 Stroke 9, and Sugarcult are my top
favorites. I also love Matchbox Twenty. I've already mentioned Pat McGee
band. I've been listening to their CD for the past 2 weeks
straight!

Been on any outrageous road trips?
LOL---are you crazy!? You can't take a trip without something crazy
happening. Now, I haven't had any trips like my man
Anthony
in last months edition, but I've had my share. The first time going to
Jupiter's in Tuscaloosa, I was so worried about not getting there in
time to get up front by the stage, that I guess I didn't realize I was
speeding outrageously! I got my first speeding ticket going to a BTE show in some
small little hick town. It was great.
Do you hang with other Ezralites?
I have before at a few shows. I recently met a girl (Cassie) at
the Tuscaloosa show who is in the same sorority as me, except at a
different college. That was weird, but I knew Chi Omega's had great
taste in music!
Anything else you'd like to share with your fellow Ezralites?
1. If you've never been right up front for a show get up there! It's
amazing!
2. I think I'm a little too excited about all this fan profile stuff if
you can't tell!!
3. So....I REALLY want to get Better Than Ezra here at Troy University.
Its my goal, so anyone with any helpful tips, let me know :)
4. Oh, and one of these days I'm going to a New Orleans House of Blues
show. Anyone want to let me stay with them :(
5. KEEP ROCKIN'!

Messrs. Ferrell and Walken
in the SNL "Cowbell" Skit
BTE "ROCKS THE COWBELL" WITH A NEW FAN
PARTICIPATION SEGMENT
by Staff
Fans attending the recent BTE shows got a big surprise
as the band debuted a new crowd participation segment where crowd
volunteers get to "rock the cowbell."
You may recall a Saturday Night Live cowbell
segment featuring Will Ferrell and guest host Christopher Walken which
memorialized the recording of Blue Oyster Cult's classic tune "Don't
Fear the Reaper." A short clip from the SNL skit is shown
above. The skit resulted in the oft-quoted phrase "more cowbell!"
As fans well know, a short cover of "Reaper" has been a familiar
ending to BTE's "In the Blood" for some time. This new cowbell segment
seems to flow naturally and is an obvious fan favorite as it combines
the spontaneity of the "This Time of Year" guest guitarist segment with
absolutely no need for musical training whatsoever (of course, it can't
hurt!).
Much like the SNL skit, Kevin Griffin implores
volunteers to "explore the space." Or as he puts it: "The concert
hall is your canvas and the cowbell is your brush!"
Megan Rocks the Cowbell at the Webster Theatre,
Hartford, CT on December 2nd.
